Sylvia is a student at Bogan High School and a participant in our CPS Community Partnerships Options Program. She enrolled in the program in September and gave birth to her daughter Emilia on March 26, 2016.
Emilia was born with a serious infection and wasn’t discharged from the hospital until April 20. During the month her baby was in the hospital, Sylvia stayed with Emilia, who was moved to several different hospitals to treat the infection.
Sylvia’s Options Home Visitor coordinated with CPS Homebound for Sylvia to receive her school work at the hospitals. Sylvia not only kept up with her work, but she was named Valedictorian. Sylvia received a scholarship to attend the University of Illinois at Chicago and plans to major in Psychology.
